Excellent reference book for begginers
I have just recently read this book and have found it very useful. It is very much based on the American poultry keeper but it is still very useful for helping begginers start building the poultry house and getting all the right equipment to start keeping poultry. It contains information on how to rear, manage and breed your poultry. There is also information on how to kill, pluck and prepare poultry for the table which I didn't find appealing as chickens are pets to me. The book also helps the more advanced poultry keeper to expand their flock. Overall I found this book really useful to have at hand when dealing with any kind of poultry.

A reference guide to those in need of guidance!
This book is extremely useful to anyone who is completely ignorant about chickens but still wants to keep some for eggs or meat. It also has good advice for experienced chicken keepers. There are several good points to remember when choosing stock, feed and housing. There are also good tips on spotting illnesses and prevention of infection. It is worth noting that this book is written for the USA and therefore is geared specifically towards the American market. However, the advice and guidance is still valuable although the favourite breeds and feeds are different in the UK. Definitely worth a look.

Very good for the novice aimed at keeping 12 birds plus !
I live in the center of London and have purchased three chicks to raise as pets and for the eggs. This was the first book I read to learn how to raise the birds. The book is an extreamly quick and easy read. It has proven to be very informative and valuable for me although I get the impression it could be brought a bit more up to date. The book has been written for keepers of larger flocks of probably 12 or more kept more for production purposes. It implies that a chickens life is over after two years and should be culled after this time. My birds are pets with names so I think I am more the type to keep them well into old age and would have a problem with killing them at the end of their productive life as the book implies you should !
