Best programming book ever
This is far and away the best programming book I have ever read. If you want to make a site using PHP and MySQL DB backend this is the book for you. I thought the level was just right, you'd need some programming experience but not to an advanced level to get on well with it.

I felt it was laid out well and as I would achieve something with my site and was ready to move on to the next level, it would be there in the next chapter (e.g. Session control with PHP). Excellent examples are another strong feature, with everything (including a FULL e-book) you would want comes on the CD too.

Superb!
This is one book that can't be beaten, even by O'Reilly. No matter what stage of the learning curve you come in at, it still shows you something new and usefull with excellent example source code to help further. If you want to learn more about PHP and/or MySQL BUY THIS!!!

Falls between two stools
Unfortunately this book is neither suitable for beginners or more accomplished programmers. If you have no experience what so ever then this book will not teach you the basics of programming. However if you know how to code in almost any other language then this book will frustrate you by not getting to the point.
This book could really do with ready reference for keywords and built in functions, as it is you will spend far too long sifting through badly laid out irrelevant information to get at the definition of the one thing that you're interested in.
The early chapter layout is particularly annoying, chapter 8 discusses creating and administering a mySQL database, chapter 9 discusses using a mySQL database, chapter 10 discusses using the php interface to mySQL, and chapter 11 discusses advanced mySQL. So basically to use the book as a reference you have to sift through 88 pages for about 20 to 30 keyword and function explanations.
There seem to be some typos in this edition, which can cause problems when trying to install the included software.
I am annoyed that I parted with money for the infomation contained within this book when its so badly laid out. If your thinking of purchasing this, don't, just use the web instead.
