This volume provides full history of submarine warfare in Atlantic in booth world wars. It is unique because it provides point of view of both sides (Allied and Germany) on numerous fields, from technical development to question of waging sea war and lot's of personal accounts. It clearly shows main differences in priorities of both sides in Battle for Atlantic in main course of war, specially in WW2 when handful of German submarine staff was opposed by organization of thousands of people on Allied side. Author puts big effort in showing continuing of German tacical use of submarines in WW2 upon previous experiences in WW1, for example German use of submarines for surface attacks and their looking on submarine not as truly submerged vessel than rather as torpedo boat capable to submerge when necessary. Pinpoint of such facts is in root of this book and author make good conclusions upon them. It is pleasant reading all the way and after reading this book there is not much black spots in ones view at Battle for Atlantic in both world wars.
