I was hoping this book would be a "Dummies Guide" to growing vegetables, i.e. "March 1st, Dig hole and plant potatoes". However, the book is a diary of a year in the author's life, focussing on her work in her vegetable plot. Starting on New Year's Day she covers most aspects of her work in the garden up to Christmas of that year. It's a good read in an easy style, and Ms Ledward has an impressive gardening pedigree. Buried in the text are useful tips on growing organic veg. She also includes recipes which are useful for getting rid of excess crops of spinach or whatever. (Her partner doesn't seem to be mad on vegetables, so she's constantly updating the reader on whether hubbie ate his greens the previous night). However, if you're looking for an encyclopedia on vegetable growing, or a step-by-step guide, this book is not the one. Having said that, I enjoyed the book
