Wow
This Camera is everything that we needed from a digital camera and more. We originally bought a Nikon, but that didn't record sound - we decided that being able to make soundless movies was pointless so swapped it for this Sony and are really pleased with it. It makes taking good photographs very simple and enjoyable. The various modes do make a difference to the quality of some pictures but the auto mode is perfect - all the photos we have taken have been excellent quality and we have printed many pictures as A4 size with no drop in the quality. Contrary to what we were told in the shops, the batteries last for ages - on a sightseeing trip, the batteries lasted 3 full days and still have some charge left - we had the LCD screen on the whole time, used flash and zoom and took over 100 photographs and made several short movies. The best thing about the camera is that you can take as much movie footage WITH SOUND as your memory card will allow. The only thing that put me off buying this particular camera was the size and shape -others are slightly smaller, but this is very easy to hold and light to carry as it uses ony 2 AA batteries, which are easy to replace.
This is our first digital Camera... great pictures and lots of fun - we would thoroughly recommend it to others!!

Easy to use, functional digital camera
I know very little about digital cameras. Suffice to say that I am happy with this one; the only downside that I have found is that if I leave it on auto (where the camera itself chooses the brightness, shutter speed, etc.), sometimes the picture comes out a little blurry; but this is not a huge problem. Generally, the pictures are clear and of good quality. The menus are also very easy to understand- I haven't had to look at the manual once (and, seeing as I bought this in Japan, that's a good thing).

Recommended- unless, of course, you can get the next model up. I can't imagine that being worse, unless it's out of your price range. It's nice being able to take videos as well (on high quality, 6 minutes on a 128 MB memory stick; on low quality, 1.5 hours). Seems pretty good to me!

A good buy!
I'd been looking around for a while for an inexpensive compact digital camera that can provide reasonably good quality pictures for my family photos. Immediately when the Sony Cybershot DSC-P72 became avialable here, I'd got hold of it without much hesitation. The reason being it's a good buy considering the features I get for this price, especially the 3.2 megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, MPEG movie with sound, and most of all its compactness.

The camera is easy to operate that I did not even need to read the user guide before starting to use the basic features.

The image quality is also excellent when using the 2048x1536 resolution with fine setting.

The use of AA battery also makes it easy to find emergency replacement in case the original two that come with the camera go flat.

Oh yes, the image/video transfer and editing software that comes along with it is really excellent! It allows all images to be transferred to my notebook computer (via USB) automatically once I connect up the cable without any intervention required (you can if you want to). It also allows me to create slide show of images and video with many professional looking transition effects easily. It also provides the conversion to Video CD format (with navigation menu) and direct writing to CDR/CDRW.

However, the 16MB memory stick that comes with it is a little too small in capacity, so I'd upgraded it to a 128 MB version. By the way, the camera also supports the new Memory Stick Pro which gives a much larger capacity (up to 1GB I think).

Overall, it is a good buy for the price I paid and I'm so far satisfied with its performance as a novice user.
